Intealth brings together the expertise and resources that advance quality in health care education worldwide in order to improve health care for all. Through strategic integration of its nonprofit members, Intealth offers a flexible and multi‐layered portfolio of services. These services enhance and support the education and training of health care professionals, verify their qualifications required to practice, and inform the development of health workforce policies around the world.
Check out the new Intealth brochure, highlighting the work we do and the communities we serve.
ECFMG and FAIMER created Intealth in 2021. This new, overarching identity reflects an integrated approach to operations and the enhanced potential this integration offers to support the health professions worldwide.
This new identity marks the success of a multi-year business transformation effort—a strategic process to ensure our continued growth and ability to meet the needs of physicians and other health professionals, the medical education and regulatory communities, researchers and policy makers, and the public.
Intealth is a new identity, not a new company. As members of Intealth, ECFMG and FAIMER remain separate 501(c)3 nonprofit corporations. They and their portfolios of programs and services will continue to thrive and grow under the Intealth umbrella.
This change creates an integrated and meaningful structure to support our continued growth and diversification.

By leveraging the combined competencies of its members, Intealth powers innovation in areas critical to the health professions.
ECFMG Certification assures the readiness of international medical graduates (IMGs) to enter graduate medical education (GME) in the United States, where IMGs comprise 25% of the physician workforce and are essential to accessible, high-quality health care. When the USMLE® program suspended its Step 2 Clinical Skills exam in early 2020, subject matter experts at ECFMG and FAIMER combined their efforts to develop the Pathways —a robust and innovative solution for continuing to assure that IMGs entering the U.S. health care system have appropriate clinical and communication skills. Now in their third year, the Pathways ensure that ECFMG’s program of certification continues to perform its vital functions and its service to the U.S. public and the GME community.
Announced in 2010, ECFMG’s medical school accreditation initiative is designed to stimulate international accreditation efforts and to enhance the quality of medical education worldwide. In the decade since, ECFMG and FAIMER experts have collaborated to support the development and implementation of global standards for evaluating undergraduate medical education. The success of this initiative to date is providing greater assurance to both medical students and the public that physicians will be appropriately trained. As members of Intealth, ECFMG and FAIMER are well-positioned to pursue such initiatives and a common vision to be the trusted global authority on health care education.
